What is a commissioned painting?
Have a special place in mind that you want me to paint for you? Maybe it's a childhood home, wedding venue, honeymoon destination, or the place you got engaged. I would love to paint it! When you commission me to paint an original piece for you, you'll send me reference photos, and we'll work together to create a custom painting that captures those beautiful memories.
Tools of the Trade
For a 5x7 commissioned painting, I use acrylic paint applied to linen finish (textured) fine art paper. This choice of paper not only provides a unique texture that adds depth to the artwork but also ensures that the colors and details are captured with a richness that feels almost tangible. The texture mimics the feel of traditional canvas, offering a tactile quality to each piece that elevates it beyond a simple print.
For larger commissioned paintings, I use acrylic paint on stretched cotton duck canvas, providing a classic, gallery-quality presentation. The stretched canvas allows for a more robust and expansive canvas to work with, ensuring that larger pieces maintain their integrity while giving you, the collector, a true art gallery experience. The acrylic paint on canvas provides durability, vibrant color retention, and a finish that's both modern and timeless, making each commission a lasting piece of art.
You Choose the Size
My commissions are offered in a range of sizes, starting with the 5x7 inch format. This size is ideally suited for intimate spaces, serving as a personal touch in a home, office, or even as a cherished collector's item that can be easily displayed sitting on a mantel or as part of a gallery wall. The 5x7 format allows for a focused, detailed piece that captures the essence of your vision in a compact way.
On the other end of the spectrum, I offer commissions that scale up to 48x60 inches. This larger size transforms your artwork into a statement piece, perfect for rooms with tall ceilings, office lobbies, or any space where art needs to make a big impression.
The Process || Step-by-Step
-
Describe your vision
The process begins with your inspiration. You can provide a single photo or multiple photos that capture the essence or specific details of what you envision. If a photo doesn't quite capture your dream landscape or scene, don't worry—you can offer a detailed description, and we'll work together to piece it all together. Describe the colors, the mood, the time of day, the elements you want included, or even the story you want the art to tell. Whether it's a cherished memory, a dream location, or an abstract concept, my aim is to translate your vision into a beautiful work of art.
-
Collaboration + Contract
Once you've shared your vision, the next step is to make it official. Upon payment, you'll sign a contract that outlines all the important details, making sure the whole process is as smooth and clear as possible.
And once the contract is signed and all the official stuff is out of the way, the fun part begins! I'll email you with some questions about the artwork you're envisioning, and then I'll put together a custom color palette and notes on composition. When you approve the color palette and overall direction, I'll start your painting!
-
Production
From the moment you've signed the contract and made your payment, artwork takes up to eight weeks to complete. Most small paintings are completed much quicker, and if you need your piece finished sooner, let's chat! I can usually adjust my schedule to make room for your custom painting.
This timeframe includes the initial sketching, layering of acrylics, drying times, and final touches. I'll keep you updated with regular progress reports, sharing updates or images as your piece comes to life. This process allows for the artwork to be crafted with the depth, texture, and emotion it deserves.
